Seven Senses Cardigan
A fingering weight cardigan is a year-round garment to me!
Perfect when the summer nights start to get chilly, lovely for the first days of autumn, a classic layering piece for winter.
The Seven Senses cardigan is inspired from my top
I just couldn’t resist using the flowery lace patterned yoke a second time.
Design
The cardigan features classic lines; a crew neck & a lace patterned rounded yoke. The lower body and cuffs are worked in a simple, yet effective, lace-pattern. Button-bands, neckline and edges are worked in rib-pattern.
Construction
The cardigan is worked seamlessly and top down.
You work the ribbed neckline, followed by an elevation at the centre back and the lace patterned yoke.Thereafter the upper body is worked with regular increases to underarm.
Work is split for lower body and sleeves. Lower body is worked flat to bind off. Sleeves are worked in the round to bind off.
Button bands are worked from picked up sts.
Sizes
Finished chest measurements, when buttoned:
81.5/89/97/106/116/123/132/143 cm – 32/35/38/42/46/48.5/52/56”.
Sample is worked in size 1, with approx. 4 cm/1.5” ease.
Choose a size close to your chest-measurement.
Materials
Yarn: I recommend that you use a fingering weight, that knits up to gauge, to work the top.
I used “Tosh Merino Light” from Madelinetosh, in the colourway “Gracenotes” to work the top. This fingering weight yarn comes in skeins of 100 gr/3.53 oz and 384 m/420 yards. You will need approximately 960/1040/1120/1220/1320/1430/1550 m = 1046/1133/1220/1329/1438/1558/1689 yards of this specific yarn to work the cardigan.
Needles: size 3 mm/US 2.5.
Notions: 1 stitch-marker, buttons 12 - 13 mm/0.6” across.
Tapestry needle. Waste-yarn (to keep the sleeve sts).
Gauge
26 sts and 38 rows in stockinette sts = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”.
Skill-level
Intermediate.
Techniques involved are:
cast-on/bind-off, picking up sts / decreases / short-rows (explained)
The pattern

The “lace” of the sleeves/lower body is written out, row-by-row.
There is a schematic.
