A warm winter shawl, Sgathach’s Shawl allows for a full range of motion, with its overlapping band tied around the waist similar to Sontag shawls. Sgathach, a legendary character in Celtic mythology known to train only the bravest and strongest of heroes, would have needed a warm, maneuverable shawl to fight in the wet, windy conditions of the Isle of Skye. A knot pattern around the band underlines the connection to the Isle.

Sgathach’s Shawl is available in S, M and L, with notes to create a custom fitting shawl for XL and plus size knitters. It is knitted flat in two pieces, and then those pieces are sewn together. The cable pattern in the band is given through a chart, not written instructions. The stripes in the shawl can be a great stashbuster for acrylic worsted weight yarn!

Materials recommended:
Body Colour: Loops and Threads “Impeccable” (285 yrds, 100% acrylic), Dark Charcoal 2 2 3 balls.
Accent Colours: Loops and Threads “Impeccable” (285 yrds, 100% acrylic), Navy Blue 1 1 1 balls, Loops and Threads “Impeccable” (285 yrds, 100% acrylic), Soft Rose 1 1 1 balls.

A cable needle or a short DPN is needed for the cabled band. A blunt-ended or yarn needle is needed to sew the pieces of the shawl together.
