These fun hat patterns are knit in an ombre created by hold three strands of fingering yarn together - which is why it takes so much yarn! If you just want to stripe and not ombre you will want to use a light bulky to Aran weight yarn.

There are instructions for creating the gradient pompom in the pattern and I am in the process of shooting a video for the heart pompom. I will include the link here as soon as it is done.
