This is a very snuggly hat and cowl set, with a deeply textured fabric that will hold the warmth next to you. The pattern includes instructions for a hat and cowl in worsted weight, and a long cowl in fingering weight.

The Shadow Check stitch is as fascinating on the back side as it is on the front side, making the cowls reversible. The pattern of slipped stitches gives it a distinct pattern on the right side, while pulling the wrong side into soft folds that act like thermal fabric. The hat uses the shadow check stitch in the body. The six sections of the crown are ribbed and filled with twisted seed stitch. Tassel is optional.

The hat and short cowl each require 1 skein of B’Splendid worsted weight yarn, and the long cowl requires 1 skein of B’Luscious fingering weight yarn.

Gauges measured over Shadow Check Stitch pattern: Hat — 6 st/1” in; short cowl —5.5 sts/1”; long cowl 7.5 sts/1”. Row gauge is less critical.
