This design was born from my desire to celebrate wild nature and its beauty.
The brioche motif recalls branches of trees growing freely. The contrast between the light and dark colors mimics the play of light and shadows in the dense forest.
“Shadows in the forest” is a huge triangular asymmetric shawl worked from the tip to the final edge. It shows the brioche plasticity at its best. A simple and repetitive brioche pattern, slightly modified throughout the shawl, creates a beautiful and visually complex design with a gorgeous texture.
This design is my second collaboration with YAMA Fibre Art, a South African independent dyer creator of stunning shades of colours.
Our first collaboration produced Kothbiro shawl.

• This pattern requires knowledge of basics of brioche knitting. In the pattern instructions, you will find some useful notes and resources you can refer to if you need.
• I used two colors in my sample, inverting them in one section of the shawl. You can play with colors as you like: you can choose not to invert colors, to invert them more than once, or to use more colors than I use.
• The size of the shawl is easily adaptable. You can obtain a wider shawl simply adding more repeats in one or more sections.

GAUGE after blocking: 14 sts x 33 rows are corresponding to one “leaf” in the size of the section 2, measuring approx 5 cm x 9 cm / 2” x 3.5”
Gauge is not critical; different gauge will only affect finished size and yardage.

FINISHED SIZE after wet blocking: length 180 cm / 70.75”; width 85 cm / 33.5”.

MATERIALS
Fingering weight yarn, in approx the following quantity: 720 m/ 788 yds for each color (2 colors).
Yarn used for the sample:
-Yama Fibre Art Merino Single (100% merino; 100 gr/ 360 m), colors Blackcurrant (DC1/LC2) and Pomegranate Candy (LC1/DC2)
3.25 mm / US 3 circular needle 60 cm/ 24” long or size to obtain gauge
Stitch marker (optional)
Cable needle or stitch holder
Tapestry needle

Questo modello celebra la natura selvaggia e la sua bellezza.
Il motivo brioche utilizzato richiama fronde di alberi che crescono liberi. Il contrasto tra colore chiaro e scuro vuole imitare il gioco di luce e ombra nel fitto di una foresta.
“Shadows in the forest” è un largo scialle triangolare asimmetrico lavorato dalla punta al bordo. Dimostra quanto il punto bricohe possa essere plastico e visivamente articolato.
In realtà, si basa su un pattern brioche piuttosto semplice e ripetitivo, leggermente modificato nel corso del procedere del lavoro, che tuttavia riesce a creare un disegno complesso e magnifico.
Questo modello rappresenta la mia seconda collaborazione con YAMA Fibre Art, una dyer sudafricana creatrice di matasse dalle magnifiche tonalità di colore.
La nostra prima collaborazione ha prodotto Kothbiro shawl.

• Questo schema richiede una conoscenza delle tecniche base del punto brioche. Nel modello sono indicate risorse utili e link di riferimento in caso di bisogno.
• Ho usato due colori nel mio modello, invertendoli in una sezione dello scialle. Potrete sbizzarrirvi coi colori a vostro piacimento: scegliendo di non invertirli, invertendoli più di una volta, o usando più colori di quelli che ho utilizzato io.
• Le misure dello scialle sono facilmente modificabili. Otterrete uno scialle più ampio semplicemente aggiungendo più ripetizioni in una o in più sezioni.

CAMPIONE dopo il bloccaggio: 14 m x 33 ferri corrispondono ad una “foglia” nella misura indicata nella sezione 2, approssimativamente 5 cm x 9 cm
Il campione esatto non è vincolante; una tensione diversa avrà effetto solamente sulle dimensioni finali e sul metraggio.
MISURE FINALI dopo bloccaggio: lunghezza 180 cm; altezza 85 cm.
