I meet so many lovely people through Ravelry, it is great to share the passion for knitting, an often a knittingfriend means that you share lots of other things and can communicate about almost anything:) Shaela was contacting me to ask some questions about finding a yarnstore in my country and all of a sudden I learned that she was going on a great trip around the Baltic Sea and that she was passionate about lace and especially looked forward to her visit in Estonia.
I really hope she is enjoying her journey:)
Shaela’s top is a topdown, seamless summer top with lots of lovely lace embellishing the front. The waist-shaping is created over the back-stitches. The hem and edges are kept in simple rib, as I didn’t want to fuss with the beautiful front.
Material Yarn: You could choose about any Fingering weight yarn that knits up to gauge. I recommend that you use a yarn with a great drape and stitch-definition. I used the lovely Madelinetosh Pashmina which worked up very nicely! If using this yarn 2 you need 2/2/2/2/2/3/3/3 skeins of 360yards. Needles Choose needle size to obtain gauge! I used needles 3.5mm/US4, but this is a suggestion only. You need straight needles for the upper part of the body and a circular needle 80cm/32” for the lower body. You will need a small circular needle 40cm/16” in a smaller size (I used size 3mm/US2.5) for the edges around armholes/neck.
Sizes
Finished bust measurement after washing/blocking: 30/32/34/36/38/40/42/44/46”. The sample is knit in size 2 with a tiny bit of negative ease.
Construction
Shaelas top is worked top-down, seamlessly. You start over upper back and from a provisional cast on you work to underarms. Sts are picked up for right and left fronts - these are worked seperately until joined and worked to underarms. Sts are cast on for underarms and the lower body is worked in the round to desired length. The hem is worked in rib-pattern and sts are picked up along the armhole openings and neck to work a narrow hem.
The pattern
The pattern guides you through the top from the provisional cast-on to the finished result. All stitch-counts are given, you could work the lace-pattern from a chart and/or written instructions
.Skills Provisional cast-on (which is explained and simple), working lace from charts or written instructions. Abbreviations used are k, p, yo, ssk, k2tog, k1tbl, m1l, m1r.
