Shallow Striped Basket with Flower
You’ll find many reasons to make this versatile basket – it’s perfect for Easter, Mothers’ Day, Birthdays, Showers, and so many occasions. The striped motif offers endless possibilities for variation. Worked in deep pastels which were inspired by the beautiful blooms in my South Carolina backyard, it makes a pretty gift by itself or as part of a gift basket. Or, experiment and create your own color palette to match any décor or season. You can also change or omit the optional flower appliqué.
The pattern calls for Red Heart Super Saver, a worsted weight acrylic craft yarn. You can use other worsted weight yarn but should avoid soft yarns, such as merino wool, silk, cotton or blends, which would probably not be suitable.
The finished size is about 10.5” in length, 6.5” across, and 2.75” tall.
Skill Level Beginner. There may be some challenges for a beginner but anyone with some experience should be fine. I’m always happy to answer any questions you may have.
Materials:
G Hook (4.25 MM)
Note on gauge and hook size: Gauge is not that important for a basket. My gauge was 7 stitches and 8 rows in Single Crochet equal about 2”. You may want to adjust your hook depending on the yarn you use and how you crochet.
Yarn: 1 skein each of Red Heart Super Saver in the following colors for the basket shown:
Aruba Sea (Mint Green)
Cornmeal (Creamy Deep Yellow)
Light Raspberry (Deep Pink)
Lavender
Note on yardage: 4 skeins are enough to make several baskets. You’ll need about 75 yards of the Light Raspberry and 50 yards of each of the other colors.
Tapestry Needle (for embroidery, appliqué, and weaving in ends)
Stitch Markers (optional but very helpful)
