Just in time for last-minute holiday knitting, a sweet pair of fingerless mitts. Squishy, nubby seed stitch on the inside, an offset cable panel on the outside, this mitt was shamelessly copied from the mitts worn by Emmy Rossum as Fiona Gallagher in the Showtime® series Shameless.

The diamond cable pattern is intentionally offset, which allows the seed stitch of the palm to wrap around the outside of the hand. The outside cable runs up the mitt in line with the ring finger, while the inside cable runs up the inside of the wrist and hand.

These mitts can be customized for length based on how you would like them to fit. Because I was basing them on the mitts worn by Fiona on the show Shameless®, I created the sample mitts to be quite long and a bit slouchy around the fingers. As written, this creates a mitt with five diamonds in the cable panel. (Grey sample mitt has a finished measurement of 8” on a 7” hand). This leaves quite a bit of room around the fingers, which is nice for curling the fingers inside to keep them toasty! They can also be folded back for a fun and funky look. Alternatively, stop at four diamonds and end with a 2x2 rib (white and red sample mitts were knit to this length).
