Shandy is a delicate cardigan with a lovely cable and scallop detail, designed to showcase a delicate heather or wool fiber. The balance of simple scallops next to bold braids make a gorgeous texture that really manages to both stand out AND remain subtle at the same time.

The cardigan is designed with a cropped silhouette and an easy fit for layering. I imagine wearing it over a skirt or dress just as easily as with overalls, pants, or over a tunic.

This alpaca-wool mix yarn was beautiful for this sweater - soft, in the perfect weight, with just a little drape and a lovely heather. The dyed Foxhow is no longer available from Happy Go Knitty, but Great Ocean Mill’s Eva is the same base without the color and it’s wonderful stuff, and Happy go Knitty has a few other DK weight bases that work beautifully (Merpaca and Ahuru) as well.

Shandy is knit flat in one piece from cast-on edge to armholes. Fronts and back are then separated and knit separately to top. Once shoulders are seamed, sleeve stitches are picked up around armholes, shaped with short rows, then knit in round to cuff. Buttonbands and collar are added last.

As always, there are notes in pattern for adjusting width or length of sweater, as well as to alter sleeve or sleeve cap shaping to achieve your desired fit. Lots of stockinette makes mods easy here.

Heavy DK or light worsted-weight wool needed. I love something with a subtle heather or delicate wooly quality in this, as it shows off the detail without overpowering the design.
