I’ve made Shannon the shark using a jumbo #7 weight yarn. This is ideal for a soft and huggable plush toy and is a pretty quick make. You can decide if you want to make your shark with or without the white underside piece. Shannon can also be made in super chunky yarn, with a smaller crochet hook. She is 26.5 inches long in jumbo yarn (when made with the recommended materials) - in super chunky weight yarn she is 15.5 inches long.

The 13 page pattern is intermediate skill level and is available in US and UK terminology – both versions will be available for you to download. It is clear to follow with detailed instructions and lots of pictures for step by step making and assembly. There are also picture instructions for invisible finish and starting the pieces.

The following stitches/techniques are used in this pattern:
US Terminology - slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, increase, decrease (sc2tog), invisible finish
UK Terminology - slip stitch, double crochet, half treble, treble, increase, decrease (dc2tog), invisible finish

Recommended Materials:

  • Yarn: I have made Shannon using Hobbii Honey Bunny Big (jumbo weight yarn) - colour and weight details in pattern
  • Hook: 9mm (M/N) crochet hook (a 12mm hook is also needed for the white underside piece)
  • Stuffing: I use polyester filling
  • Safety eyes: I have used 24mm plastic safety eyes, but you can embroider the eyes on if you prefer
  • Large yarn needle
  • Large pins/Ami sticks
  • (A stitch marker and row counter are useful)
  • A small amount of black yarn for the smile and gills (I’ve used super chunky weight yarn for this)
  • A small amount of white Aran yarn for sewing the underside piece
