SHAPES II is the second shape in the series! A kind of manta/crescent hybrid, it’s knit from the top down, and has another nice wrap-around shape.

Knit Shapes II at any gauge, in any shawl-suitable yarn. Soft wool is always a good bet. In the main sample—pink and red—I used Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo, which is pretty soft, more of a sportweight for fast knitting, and comes in a 330-yard skein, so my gauge listings and yardage reflect that choice. But again: you can knit this in anything from laceweight to worsted.

Materials:

  • 330-990 yards of Malabrigo Arroyo or any substitute sportweight shawl-suitable yarn
  • Crochet hook, sized to suit yarn
  • 1 48”circular needle in US5/3.75mm, or size needed for desired gauge
  • 2 removable stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends

Gauge:
For the development sample, gauge is 22 sts and 44 rows in 4”/10cm in blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge. Or don’t! This is an any-gauge project, so go for a density of fabric or drape that you like with consideration for the yarn you’ve chosen.

(I also tried to add a photo tutorial .PDF, since this design uses a slightly unusual cast-on. The thumbnails are currently superficially the same for both .PDFS.)
