DESCRIPTION
SHARING CREATIVITY DK is knit from the bottom up, working back and forth in relaxing garter stitch rows. Slip stitches are made at the beginning and end of each row to nicely finish the edges. The knitting is then joined to work in the round and the length of the cowl is completed. An I-cord bind off finishes the neck opening.

GAUGE, NEEDLES, NOTIONS
Gauge: 20 sts & 38 rows = 4” / 10 cm in garter stitch, blocked

Recommended Needles: US 6 / 4 mm (or size needed to get gauge) 16” / 40 cm circular needle or 40” / 101 cm circular needle for magic loop. (If you find your bind off tends to be too tight, you may wish to use needles one-two sizes larger for the I-cord bind off).

Notions: Removeable stitch marker, BOR stitch marker, scissors, tapestry needle.

YARN
This cowl is designed for a DK weight yarn. I used Malabrigo Yarn Sock held double (Baco, Parade, Carnival, and Mask), a 3 ply Light Fingering 100% SW Merino Wool (440 yds / 402 m, 100 grams). Use up your stash! Use DK weight yarn, or hold two strands of fingering weight together. Use your creativity to create stripes, solids, fades, color blocks, or a mix match of everything!

Fingering Weight: 721 (880) yds / 660 (805) meters
DK Weight: 360 (440) yds / 330 (402) meters.

TECHNIQUES USED
Knit, purl, increasing, slipping stitches, knitting flat and in the round, I-cord bind off.

ACCESSIBILITY

~ As soon as I finished knitting the fingering weight version of this cowl, I knew there must be one in DK, and I immediately cast on! DK weight yarn is my most favorite weight to knit! The thicker weight provides the perfect medium for blending two strands of fingering weight yarns into unlimited creative possibilities. I felt like I was creating a painting as I watched the colors flow and change throughout the process of knitting of this cowl.

DK weight has a firmer drape, and I love the way it gathers in front. Since I love cowls to sit closer to my neck, I added in extra decrease rows. This is completely customizable, decreases may be left out to allow a looser neckline.

This project has helped to occupy my mind as well as the extra time that suddenly became available. I am happy to be able to share this design with you, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it! ~
