This pattern is worked from top to bottom, starting with garter stitch short rows.

The lace border is then knitted on, so the only finishing is the darning in of 2 ends.

There is also a DK version of this shawl which is worked from end to end. The border is worked at the same time as the main body of the shawl rather than be knitted once the main part of the shawl has been completed.
