Sharon's Road Trip
The Sharon Road Trip shawl MKAL will begin July 12! We will open a discussion thread in the Casapinka group this week so you can discuss colors. There will be one clue per week for 6 weeks.
If you don’t know who Sharon is, she’s Sharon From Security, Casapinka’s snarky cat who smokes and owns a flamethrower. Sharon’s nemeses to date are: Jean from I.T. and her Chihuahua, Shannon, Chad, the Mongolian Death Worm, and Keith the Hiker (from last summer’s Camino MKAL and who still remains at large.) She has a cat employee (Fin from Interpol - in the bow tie) and a cat sister, Kit Kat (the resting hiss face) - both pictured at left.
Sign up for our newsletter here to see upcoming designs and more yarn offerings for this MKAL.
Right now, kits are available on Miss Babs and at Gigi Bonin - most of her sets of four will work. More yarn will be available from other sources soon and this will be updated accordingly.
This year, we have some major fun in store for you guys! Sharon won a 2011 Toyota minivan in a back room poker game (we don’t ask and you shouldn’t, either.) She is working “very hard” to make it into a camper so she can experience Van Life on her road trip (and also pull her tiny camper which she hopes to fill with perps.) We will be sharing updates on the build as the month goes on as well as where she’s going on her Road Trip.
When you purchase the pattern before July 12, you will get a SCHEMATIC ONLY so you can play with your color ideas. It’s representative and not literal. You can color in your ABCD colors on the right of the schematic, and add them as you like, wherever you like. It is supposed to give you a general sense of how they look together. Please remember that this is a MYSTERY knit-a-long and we aren’t going to be telling you too much. (Sharon here, if you pay me nuff I’ll tell you everything!)
Yarn Amounts
Exact amounts have not been determined yet but the max is 400 yards per color.
We are size inclusive and there will be options to make it larger somewhere in the pattern. As we’ve said before: “Trust the Cat” and most people have found that to be a good rule of thumb.
Color Direction
Sharon’s design was done in the colors at the top left:
A - May Morning
B - Blue Savannah
C - White Peppercorn
D - Isfahan
Four colors of yarn were used, with one of them a contrast color. Don’t make the other colors “too” blendy, as you don’t want them to fade into each other. On the other hand, a gradient will work, just ensure you can see the difference in the shades. Variegated can work but realize that if it blends into one of the other colors you’re using, you may want to switch it around for certain sections but it is probably best as Color B. Sharon’s set is at the top left.
