Shawl Starters - Almost Triangles and Gentle Crescents

Patterns may be knit with any favorite yarn and its appropriate needles. Gauge is not critical, size depends on the amount of yarn used. Samples shown are knit with DK and Bulky yarns and their best needle sizes for the yarn and knitter.

Many times, when visiting a farm or local yarn shop, I have found an interesting skein or two of yarn and had the desire to begin a project right away!
I started thinking…
What exactly did I do to make a garter triangle into an eyelet triangle?
And then, how did I make that gentle crescent, the garter one that lays nice and flat?
Could I make that crescent in stockinette, with garter edges, so my shawl will be a bit lighter?
How do I begin a shawl with my favorite I-cord edges and bind off for a bulkier yarn?
I know that many of my favorite shawls simply showcase the yarn’s special colors or texture, matched with its favorite needles. All I need is the cast on, the set up rows and the first row pattern repeat. Then I can start my shawl.
