She Sells Sea Shells
She Sells Sea Shells is a Moebius cowl, with an unusual construction method: the Half Twist Helix. It is worked from the outside edge towards the centre line, and then grafted using Kitchener Stitch, with a slip stitched, half depth seam.
The pattern is both written out and fully charted and has a detailed photo-tutorial included in the finishing instructions. There are also photo-tutorials for Crocheted Double Chain Cast On, and the Bunny Ears decrease.
The stitch pattern is a garter stitch lace pattern based on Cockleshells: a Shetland Isles traditional pattern.
The pattern is designed to use a single skein of fingering weight yarn; 2 sizes are given to accommodate the variance in length of typical 100g/4oz skeins. Small measures 107 cm/42 inches x 24 cm/9.5 inches. Medium measures 117 cm/46 inches x 24 cm/9.5 inches. Guidance is also given for customising the length in 10 cm/4 inch increments including how to calculate yardage required.
Gauge is worked in ordinary garter stitch and is 23 stitches & 48 rows to 10 cm/4 inches. Go down a needle size, rather than up, if your swatch sits between 2 sizes.
The pictures shown are made in Apple Tree Knits Luxe Fingering Gradient (Vortex), and madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light (Tomato)
