I designed this pattern for Raveler Shells75, to replicate a favorite old sweater of hers. It’s a simple funnel-neck sweater knitted in super bulky yarn. The body is knitted in the round up to the underarms, then the stitches are divided for the front and back and knitted back and forth to the shoulder. Stitches are put on holders for the neck, and the shoulders are joined with a 3-needle bind-off. The sleeve stitches are then picked up around the armhole, and the sleeves are knitted from the shoulder to the cuff. Finally, the neck is knitted from the held stitches. All the hems are rolled, so the only finishing is to weave in a few ends.

To make this sweater, you will need to know how to knit, purl, k2tog, ssk, and work a 3-needle bind-off.

The photos are from Shells75’s old sweater and a gansey of mine that I knitted in high school. Shells75’s pictures are used with her permission.
