Shepherd Mittens
Three times each day during spring and summer, I leave the farm and take to the forest path. Together with my flock of Grå Trønder sheep, we follow along the pathway and climb the mountain. We walk deeper and deeper into the forest, until we reach the forest glade, where my little flock frolics and grazes among the forest trees.
Now in winter, there are fewer trips along the path. The «Shepherd Mittens» were inspired by the memories of these lovely journeys of walking up and down the mountain. They offer such warmth doing farm chores now on the coldest of days.
This design complements my «Shepherd Socks» further representing my passion for protecting and growing the wool of this rare, heritage breed of sheep - the Grå Trøndersau (Gray Trøndelag sheep) through the year.
It has been important to me to help to return this breed of sheep to its original landscape here within the Trøndelag region of Norway, in which I live. Growing and promoting the wool, which was the first used within the original Selbu mitten rose design, is my primary focus here on the farm. These mittens represent this work, my passion, my little flock and tell this story.
Thank you for joining me along on the forest path and knitting my design! I hope they keep your hands joyfully warm.
Happy knitting!
