Shepherd Road

Men’s vest in a relaxed or shaped fit with colourwork panels.

Shepherd Road is a casual and modern take on the men’s vest. Inspired by sportswear, it has a high v-neck, tapered centre panel and a simple geometric motif on the side panels.

The side panels also provide a great canvas for substituting your own unique colourwork design.

It is knitted in four pieces and joined with three needle bind off (or blanket stich if preferred). Stiches are then picked up to form the ribbing on neck, bottom band and armhole bands.

Two fit options are provided: relaxed (straight-sided); or with waist shaping. The shaped option is not designed to be tight, but still provide positive ease around the chest, waist and hips.

Yarn

DK/Light worsted, 100% wool, 100-140m (110-150 yards) per 50g. A tight, compact yarn is best and swatching is recommended to ensure the yarn is not too bulky for colourwork.

Sample shown in Fabulous Fibres Woolly 100% pure wool machine wash shade 314 (navy) and Naturally Baby Naturals 100% NZ wool merino origin 8 ply shade 101 (heathered natural).

Needles

• Straight gauge-size needles (achieved with 4mm (US6)).
• 3 straight below-gauge-size needles for three needle bind off (3.5mm (US4)) item.
• Round below-gauge-size needle (3.5mm (US4)) for ribbing in 40mm and 80mm circumferences.

Gauge

22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm (4 inches) over plain stockinette without fairisle pattern (achieved with 4mm needles).
25 sts and 28 rows to 10cm (4 inches) over the stranded colourwork.

Sizing

To fit chest:89-94cm/35-37 inches (Size S); 96-102cm/38-40 inches (Size M); 107-112cm/42-44 inches (Size L).
To fit hips:89-94cm/35-37 inches (Size S); 96-102cm/38-40 inches (Size M); 107-112cm/42-44 inches (Size L).
To fit waist (fitted waist option) less than: 82cm/32 inches (Size S); 88cm/35 inches (Size M); 98cm/39 inches (Size L)
Back finished length: 60cm/24 inches (Size S); 61cm/24 inches (Size M); 63cm/25 inches (Size L).
