Sheridan Square
Warm, light, and sumptuously textured, Sheridan Square is just the thing to add a pop of color and hint of warmth to your spring wardrobe. Alternating panels of wide-wale ribbing and double seed stitch add visual interest and soothing texture, balancing out the fluidity of a drapey two-ply luxury yarn. Sized to add just a touch of warmth, Sheridan Square straddles the border between a pure fashion accessory and a ward against an unexpectedly chilly evening. Make one in winter white or light grey for a sophisticated, urban version, or use your favorite bright for a pop of color against a more neutral outfit. Knit in the round with minimal shaping, the cowl slopes gently inward from bottom to top, and works up quickly in less than a single skein of yarn.
Size
One Size; 26” / 66 cm circumference at bottom, 22” / 56 cm circumference at top; 9” / 23 cm height.
Yarn
Purl Soho Mulberry Merino (DK-weight silk/wool blend), 1 skein, or approximately 200 / 183 meters yards DK-weight wool or wool-blend yarn. Note on substitution: you’re looking for a yarn with some drape and, preferably, some sheen, so look for a wool that’s blended with a fiber with some natural luster and drape, like silk, alpaca, or cashmere. I’m particularly fond of silk blends, because the silk fibers take dye differently than wool, giving the yarn a lot of dimension and shine.
Gauge
22 sts and 36 rnds per 4” / 10 cm in double-seed and rib pattern, after blocking. Gauge is not critical to this project, but may affect finished size.
Needles
24” / 61 cm circular needle (or longer for magic/travelling loop) in size US 6 / 4.00 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge.
Notions
Stitch markers; tapestry needle.
Skills Required
Decreasing; knitting in the round; sewn bind-off (instructions provided).
