This pattern for my African Flower Cat, my 11th pattern. I have tried really hard to make it visually easy to follow, as well as written instructions. (Although I am a big visual fan, so my photos may say more.)

I have tried really hard to correct all the error (grammar and instructional) as possible… but I’m not perfect and mostly likely missed a few, please be kind and let me know if you find any :)

I cannot tell you the exact amount of yarn to use. It is a great way to use up all your leftover yarn. I prefer to use 2.5mm hook and fingering/sock/sport/sometimes DK weight yarn.

Some important things to know when making your Cat…

1. First read the whole pattern through and have a good understanding of how your Cat is assembled.
2. It’s best if you know how to make the African flower motifs. I have tried really hard to describe the process in making them.
3. I use the “join as you go” method as described in Heidi Bears Designs. If you don’t know it or are not comfortable with that method, then I suggest sewing it together.

Material needed:

The Cat that has been crocheted for this pattern was made using sock weight/DK.

Using this weight yarn will give you a cat approximately 27cm tall, 39cm long (minus length of tail), 13cm wide.

Crochet Hook 2.5mm

I like my stitches TIGHT. So adjust your hook to the weight of your yarn and to your skill level.

Polyester toy stuffing

Scissors, blunt end Needle used for sewing in ends and sewing fins on

Eyes (16mm plastic safety eyes or wire-looped eye buttons are my preferred).

NOTE BUTTON OR EYES CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR SMALL CHILDREN! If this toy is for a child, perhaps crochet eyes and sew them on. Still create eye sockets before embroidering the eyes on…this adds character to your creation.

Basic Crocheting Skills: Chain stitch (ch) , Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Half double crochet(Hdc) Slip Stitch (sl st), joining a chain to make a ring, joining in a new color yarn. Magic Ring (MR)
