Sherlock’s Bees is a Tunisian Crochet sampler pillow cover. The honeycomb stitch reminds me of busy honeybees and, being a librarian by day, I had to pull in the literary reference… leading to the name Sherlock’s Bees.

The pillow cover came about as a way to learn different Tunisian stitches in an easy to make project that is not super big, but big enough to have practice learning the different stitches.

The pillow cover is made as a long rectangle which is folded over the pillow form and secured with buttons in an envelope-type closure. The sides are seamed with a sc and crab stitch border.

I have included three separate pattern files.

  • Checklist Pattern: has checklist format for each row so you can more easily keep track of your Forward and Return Passes for each section.
  • Written pattern: instructions only in order to save paper and ink.
  • Charts: Charts are saved in the Appendix A file and are to be used as a supplement to the written pattern.

This pattern is for the Tunisian Crochet beginner who:

  • Knows Crochet Chain, Slip Stitch, Single Crochet;
  • Knows Tunisian Simple Stitch, Slip Stitch Bind Off, Foundation Row, Forward Pass and Return Pass

You will use the following stitches and skills (US crochet terms):

  • Tunisian Purl Stitch
  • Tunisian Knit Stitch
  • Tunisian Simple Stitch
  • Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch
  • Single Crochet
  • Crab Stitch (aka Reverse Single Crochet)
  • Slip Stitch Bind Off
  • Buttonholes
  • how to read a Tunisian crochet chart
