Sherlock's Great Afghan Adventure II
Sherlock’s Great Afghan Adventure II is the second of our five Conan-Doyle inspired knitting adventures. Each installment can be knit as a standalone afghan or as part of an overall project (meaning they are designed to fit together). Since there are 60 total short stories and novels in total we’d have an odd shaped afghan (at least one) if we didn’t come up with a solution, so we’ll be introducing “character” squares in this year’s round of knits. You’ll receive 4 character squares this year - so if you want a larger blanket simply knit each character square once or twice to enjoy a larger blanket.
Our second adventure design inspiration comes two opposing elements in that month’s story - one representing something or someone good in a lighter shade yarn while the other represent a darker element of our story. Each element will take up half of your square and the color work will be kept to a minimum. That said, if you really want to knit a solid colored afghan simply ignore the color directions - the designs will look just as nice in one color.
Yardage is as follows:
12 squares 1 color = 2200 yards
12 squares 2 colors = 2200 yards - 1100 yards each color
16 squares - 12 squares + 4 character squares 1 color = 2800 yards
16 squares - 12 squares + 4 character squares 2 color = 2800 yards - 1400 yards each color
20 squares - 12 squares + 8 character squares 1 color = 3400 yards
20 squares - 12 squares + 8 character squares 2 color = 3400 yards - 1800 yards each color
In addition to your regular sized story square and your new character squares we’ll also have each one as a two-thirds square as well. And don’t forget the quarterly trivia - you’re going to love the prizes - just remember the questions come directly from the stories so get busy reading!
First story/square released May 16th 2015 - with additional squares being released the third Saturday of every month for a year. Club runs through April 16, 2016.
Hope you join along for the fun - join our group forum! Until then enjoy these three practice squares - they will give you an idea of how the colors will play together.
