Sherlock's Great Afghan Adventure III
Ready for more reading and knitting fun? If so you’ll be happy to know our third round of Sherlock’s Great Afghan Adventure is about to begin. This mystery read and knit along starts July 16, 2016 and runs through June 17, 2017. We’ll have 12 new squares inspired by the 12 stories we will read, plus 4 new character squares, 12 new two-third squares (mini versions of the larger squares), more trivia based on the stories, and new to this adventure will be monthly puzzles and games (so those of you non-readers out there can join in on the quarterly drawings too). So grab your books and needles and lets get ready for some classic reading and timeless knitting fun!
For those of you unfamiliar with our MKAL this series gives you several options for your afghan’s layout - the 12 square stand alone version uses 2200 yards for an afghan about 68 inches by 42 inches. The 16 square afghan (12 story squares + 4 character squares) uses 2800 yards of yarn and gives you about a 68 inch square. The 20 square (12 story squares + 8 character squares) uses 3400 yards of yarn and fits nicely over a queen/full sized bed.
The sample uses Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage - which is a wonderful meaty yarn with great stitch definition and is machine washable. I have also listed some alternative yarns as well - you’ll just want to make sure you use a yarn that shows off your stitches so a solid to semi-solid color way is recommended. You can also use a different weight yarn if desired - just be consistent with your needle size the throughout the adventure.
The two practice squares shown show you some of the new techniques we’ll be exploring this time - closed ring cables and moving stitches with increase/decrease combinations.
