Finished poncho is about 67cm (26”) long at centre front/back and has a collar that can be worn both ways. Buttoned, the collar forms a turtleneck. If the poncho is turned around (so the back becomes the front) and the collar is unbuttoned, it becomes a shawl collar with button embellishment.

The pattern is designed for bulky yarn or the equivalent, and much of the fun comes from combining yarns to get just the look you want. Directions are included for combining several strands of thinner yarn to make the equivalent of a bulky yarn, mixing yarn weights in the same project (perfect for a stash-buster) and creating a gradual colour gradient with 4 strands of lace weight yarn.

Also included are stitch counts for each row to help you plan your design, and a photo tutorial on chain plying (aka Navaho plying), which allows you to make available 3 strands of yarn from one ball.

Poncho requires about 920 meters (1000 yards) of bulky weight yarn, or the equivalent.

Illustrated gray poncho used Loops & Threads Woolike (4 strands held together): 2 balls each (A) beige, (B) cool gray, (C) charcoal.

Note: Some folks have needed a partial extra skein of colours B & C.

The blue poncho used about 400 g assorted lace, fingering, DK & worsted weight yarns.

Also needed are 4 stitch markers or pieces of scrap yarn and a 9mm crochet hook. Gauge isn’t critical. Illustrated ponchos had a gauge of 10 sc per 10 cm (4”).
