This elegant stole features traditional Shetland lace stitch patterns and edges. Originally made for Gail Callahan, she modeled it so well that soon everyone wanted to know the pattern.

Be careful! This is an advanced lace pattern with a lot going on. Like most traditional Shetland patterns, it’s patterned on both sides and is garter-stitch based. There aren’t any “tricky” stitches, per se, but it can be a challenge to keep track of your place in any given row.

The two edge pieces are made first so you won’t run out of yarn unexpectedly. The main body is picked up from the side of one edge piece and then knit to the desired length. The second edge piece is attached to the main body while binding off, like a 3-needle bind-off.
