Shetland Crescent
This shawl was inspired by the range of natural shades of Jamieson & Smith‘s Shetland Supreme 2 Ply Lace yarn.
I wanted to combine modern simplicity with this beautiful traditional yarn.
The pattern begins with one stitch and expands with alternating bands of stocking stitch and simple lace knitting. The shape is a shallow crescent with increases at the centre and along the sides. The gradation of colours through the repetitions of the simple lace motif suggests the subtle markings of seashells and feathers.
The shawl is designed to be worn asymmetrically, with the central increases draped over one shoulder and the tapering points thrown over the other.
