Shetland Halos
This shawl measures 63 inches x 30 inches.
● This project is made using minimal shaping, this makes knitting the edging and border lace much easier. The Lacy Victorian Edging has large loops on its straight edge which are picked up for the Ring Lace border.
● A gathering decrease row worked after the Ring Lace border but before the garter stitch triangle effortlessly eases the rectangular border edging around the lower edge. This means the shawl will block flat and in a triangular shape without knitting complicated mitred shaping in the lacy border pattern rows.
● The garter stitch triangle is worked from the bottom up, on live stitches from the Ring Lace border. Four decreases are worked every other row to shape the triangle. There is no long cast off row to finish.
● This construction method gives no tight edges to the knitting which makes it easier to block and shape.
The ring lace looks best worked in finer lace weight yarns, the ring holes will look less delicate if worked with thicker lace weight yarns.
