Shield Socks
Ever since I started knitting socks they became my traditional hand knit gift for all occasions…it’s your birthday? Have some socks. The holidays? Socks. You just had your appendix out…you guessed it, socks. Intricately cabled socks, fancy lace socks, stranded, intarsia, all kinds of socks. But it turns out that some people in my life just wanted plain socks. Simple ribbing that hugged their feet and legs. Not enough to hold this knitters attention, so the Shield Sock was born. Interesting enough for me, plain enough for them.
This cabled sock has a shield motif on the outside edge of each leg and a simple cable on the other side of the foot. The socks are mirror images of each other, with each one presented with it’s own unique chart in both a 64 and 72 stitch count top down sock.
The cable design looks very intricate, but is easier than it appears as all the cabled stitches are worked as knit stitches.
Pick a cheery, bright color for yourself, or a more traditional color for the men in your life.
