Shimmering Seas Shawl
A simple lace pattern shawl, using a contrast yarn to create interest. The colour of the yarns I chose reminded me of shimmering Mediterranean seas – hence the name.
The sample is made using Louisa Harding Grace Silk and Wool which is a double knit yarn and has 50% silk. A yarn with no silk may not produce the same drape. The colour is dark teal (shade 7). The contrast yarn is Louisa Harding Sari Ribbon which is a bulky ribbon yarn with a lovely metallic sparkle in it. The colour is brown, teal and navy (shade 36). The look of the shawl can be altered easily by choosing a different contrast yarn – for a simple beaded effect try Louisa Harding Grace Hand Beaded.
The finished size is 145cm by 70cm blocked. The shawl can be made larger by adding more stocking stitch rows before the main pattern starts.
This is a traditional triangular shawl started from the back of the neck and worked downwards. If you are not familiar with this type of construction then you will find plenty of information to help you on the internet.
