The River Shimna begins its life in the Mourne Mountains, flowing through the picturesque Tullymore Forest before entering the Irish Sea in the town of Newcastle.
As a school girl, I studied the River Shimna as part of a geography field trip for my exams. When the cables on this hat formed, they reminded me of the flow of a river and the moss (seed) stitch made me think of the stony river bed beneath the water.
The Shimna Beanie is a simple, cosy cable hat. Knit in the round with a deep alternating moss stitch rib pattern and cables that decrease to the crown. There are directions for a fitted beanie and slouchy style hat.
