Pattern Description from Scarf Style:

’Shippo’ is the Japanese word for ‘tail,’ a fitting name for this small, triangular scarf that has more tail than triangle. What makes the scarf an especially charming accessory is the graphic placement of colors and the crinkly surface, a texture that results from its unusual yarns - a strand of linen paper and a strand of silk-embedded stainless steel held together. The scarf wraps around the neck, and the tails can be tied or left to fall on the neck or shoulder. The scarf’s simple design and use of nontraditional fibers are characteristic of the unusual knitwear created by the design team of Setsuk Torii and Masami Fukui.

Finished Size: 52” (132 cm) long and 9¼” (23.5 cm) at widest point, after washing and blocking

Yarn:

• Habu Textiles A-60 Shosenshi Paper (100% linen paper with viscose sizing; 840 yd (755m)/3 oz (85g))
• Habu Textiles A-20 and A-21, 1/20 Silk Stainless (69% silk, 31% stainless steel; 615 yd (550 m)/1 oz (28 g) cone).
• For striped scarf: A-60 Shosenshi Paper #113 brick, #115 gray-beige, and #116 wine, 1 skein each; A20 Silk Stainless #02 black, A-21 #04 top brown, 1 cone each.
• For olive and black scarf: A-60 Shosenshi Paper #114 yellow-green (olive) and #119 sumi (black), 1 skein each; A-21 Silk Stainless #04 top brown and A-20 Silk Stainless #02 black, 1 cone each.

Needles: Size 7 (4.5mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Tapestry needle.

Gauge:

• 16½ sts and 20 rows =4” (10 cm) in St st with both strands held together, before washing.
• 18 sts and 22 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st after washing and blocking.

Note: Scarf is not symmetrical. After washing and blocking, the point will be about 22” (56 cm) from one end and 30” (76 cm) from the other end.
