I’d been thinking about designing a Star Trek hat for a while. The Nerd Wars competition on Ravelry gave me the push to design and knit it. The band of the hat is red with gold Star Trek insignia (insignia design by Zoë Scheffy). The top of the hat represents the star field as a ship goes into warp.

Each of the 5 Star Trek series is represented in a field of stars, in order from start of round to end: the Enterprise (NX-01, a NX-class starship), the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701, a Constitution-class ship), Terok Nor (Deep Space 9), the USS Enterprise-D (NCC-1701-D, a Galaxy-class ship), and USS Voyager (NCC-74656, an Intrepid-class ship).

I used Stroll for the hat -- simply because I like the feel of the yarn -- in burgundy, sapphire, mustard, and carbon twist. But, a heavier fingering weight yarn might give a more substantial hat.
