This pattern is a unique method I designed to create a lace edged, crescent shaped shawl using the Apple ShirleShawl app for the iPad. It’s unique because the lace is knit first in a long straight strip from top to bottom using a provisional cast on and bound off with a picot edge. Then those provisional stitches are placed back on the needle and the body is knit from row by row app-generated directions for completing the body of the shawl using short rows and knitting bottom to top. The short rows turn the straight lace strip into a lovely, gently curved shawl shape. Techniques you’ll need to know or learn are: Provisional Cast On and Short Row methods. The link for the free pattern takes you to a page with other links that show my favorites of those methods. The free pattern has directions for doing the Skp and Sk2p sts and how to deal with double yarn overs. These are the three unique stitches the pattern requires. The directions for the Picot Bind off for the lace are part of the pattern as is the 2-stitch iCord bind off for the top edge of the shawl. This is a brand new custom designed pattern using my new app so if you download and knit the pattern you are automatically one of my Beta knitters. I’d love to have your feedback.
