Originally created as part of Lady Dye Yarns’ Bridgerton-inspired Candid and Colourful Collection, I imagined this long, straight shawl sitting on the shoulders, gently caressing the wearer with a combination of textures and a riot of colour. However you choose to wear it, it’s worked flat in two pieces, then grafted together using Kitchener stitch, creating an invisible seam where the two pieces meet.

The mosaic colour work of Pattern 1, which is placed at each end of the design, is called House of Cards. It acknowledges the intricate games played by each family in the series as they try to connect their daughters with a man from ‘the right family’. The use of bold, contrasting colours celebrates Bridgertons rich racial diversity. At the same time, the tiny bud-like stitch in the main Nupp pattern references the many floral motifs of the costumes and sets. And, of course, it also alludes to new life, relationships, sexual tension and new love!

And the name? Well, I had to name it in honour of Bridgerton Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes. Thank you, Shonda, for creating such a wonderful vehicle for escapism that allows us to celebrate our diversity in such a joyous way.

This shawl is One size and measures 238.75 cm long x 44.5 cm wide (94” long x 17.5” wide) after blocking.

Materials
To knit this shawl, you will need 1719 m (1880 yds) of DK weight merino wool in Colours A, B, D & E and 109 m (120 yds) of a fluffy fingering weight yarn - Colour C - for textural contrast. Details of the yarns used to knit the sample shown is given below.
