Shoppe Cowl
I originally developed this cowl as a beginner pattern for the crochet classes I teach, but honestly, it’s a fun, easy going project for all crochet levels.
This pattern is a great follow up to a beginner lesson, after students are feeling comfortable with single and double crochet stitches, as it allows you to combine both in one pattern, while adding one additional new technique - working in back loops only. You’ll also continue to increase your pattern reading skills.
This project is works flat in rows, and then seamed up the side with a whip stitch seam (or your preferred seaming method).
The sample was made with only one skein of Quince & Co. Osprey (aran - 170 yards). The simplicity of this pattern really allows your yarn to shine, so try it with lighter weight yarn held double, variegated yarns, or yarns with unique textures.
This pattern recommends a US I / 5.5mm hook, but adjustments for gauge may be needed.
Please enjoy this free pattern, and reach out if you have any questions!
