2 skein Sock/Fingering weight approximately 400 yards each (suggestion: 1 variegated, 1 solid/semi-solid.

You will not use the entire skein of either, but unless you are a tight knitter you will likely use more than half of both skeins. This would allow for the saw to be slightly larger if you so choose. There are instructions within the pattern to adjust the size.

US 4 or 5 circular needle with 24” cable (chose a needle size the produces your desired fabric. Use a smaller needle for a slightly smaller shawl with tighter stitches or a larger needle for a slightly larger shawl with loser stitches.
