Short Asymmetrical Jacket
From ‘Andean Inspired Knits: Designs in Luxurious Alpaca’: The goemetric embroidered pattern for this short jacket came from a piece of embroidered tapestry from the Nazca era. The tapestry was further embellished with flowers, but I liked the serpentine embroidery so much by itself that I decided to leave it alone. This jacket has unusual asymmetrical fronts that drape open beautifully or that may be fastened with a brooch – or knitted flower pin! A high collar and narrow sleeves that can be pushed up the arm give the jacket a sophisticated look.
Note: This garment is planned to have a fixed number of rows for the body and sleeves to accommodate the embroidery as shown; all pieces are the same length for all sizes.
This pattern includes the instructions for making the knitted flower pin.
SIZES: Small (Medium, Large).
FINISHED BUST CIRCUMFERENCE: 35½ (40, 46½) ”/ 87.5 (101.5, 118) cm, closed.
Note: Jacket may be left open or front overlap can be adjusted for a roomier fit, to produce a slightly larger size when worn.
ADDITIONAL SIZING INFORMATION: the finished ‘wingspan’ of the jacket is planned to be 60½ ” / 153.5 cm from cuff to cuff for all sizes. Information is provided on customizing sleeve length. Because the larger sizes have increasingly wider bodies, they have correspondingly shorter sleeves in order to keep the wingspan identical for all sizes.
