Short-faux heel sock method
The .pdf file is NOT for a pattern. It is for a method to custom fit a sock to your foot. If I gave you a pattern, it would only help you make a sock that fit my foot, and you’d have to hope that you and I had the same size foot.
Before you even attempt to follow this method to make a pair of socks, I strongly recommend you try the original short-faux heel slipper sock to get a feel for the general construction; or, to practice the short-row shaping, try the short-faux heel slipper sock - take two. (Ignore that goofy decreasing nonsense at the pinky toe while working the sock body! What a pain that was--unnecessary extra work!) You’ll find that making yourself socks is exactly like making the slipper socks… just with smaller yarn and a smaller hook. (But you’ll get more immediate results, and it will give you practice on the construction.)
The variation in yardage depends upon the fiber content of your sock yarn. I can get a complete pair of ankle socks out of a single skein of Deborah Norville sock yarn (230 yds) and have a little bit of yarn left over, but when working with other sock yarns that do not have bamboo (and therefore have less “drape” and more springy…ness--yes, it’s a word!), then I end up needing more in the 260-270 yard range to get a complete pair of socks. And of course, if you like taller socks, you will need more yarn (around 450 yards for a pair).
Please do PM me if you have questions! :)
Items made from my patterns are intended for personal use, sale, or world domination--as long as I get a parking space wherever I want once the world is yours.
