Shoulder Season
Shoulder Season, part of the Friluftsliv Cowl Collection, is worked top down in the round until the shoulders are bound off, and the front and back are finished flat. A heavily textured and brightly colored take on the traditional dickie, it can be worn under coats or alone when a little extra warmth is needed, in the “shoulder season.” There are three size options for the funnel neck to accommodate the wearer’s preferred ease, and the length easily can be extended. Shoulder Season is a gender inclusive pattern that may be knitted in a variety of fibers and colors to personalize the accessory for its recipient.
Friluftsliv (pronounced free-loofts-liv) is a Scandinavian term that translates to “open air living.” I designed this cowl collection to brighten my outdoor hiking attire and bring a little bit of maker joy to my experiences in nature.
Elements of the cowls in the collection are related, yet each design offers something unique. As I tried to create a universally well-fitting piece, I realized how differently we like to wear cowls, particularly with regards to ease and drape at the neck. I hope you will find one that you love! I recommend knitting Shoulder Season with less ease at the neck, due to the shaping. Choose a size based on neck, not head, circumference.
