The Shrike Cardigan is named for one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite artists, Shrike by Hozier. This song, like much of his music sounds like the feeling of coming home. I hope this cardigan can provide some of the comfort to you that his music gives me.

The Shrike Cardigan is a top-down construction knit in broken rib. First, you will knit the back panel. Once complete you will pick up for each of the front sides, shaping the v-neck as you go. When the back and two front panels are complete they will be joined under the arm. Once joined, the body is worked flat until a ribbing finishes the body. Each sleeve is picked up and has optional short rows to improve fit. The cardigan is then finished with a double-knit button band.

5 (5, 6, 6, 6) (7, 7, 8, 8) balls of Tynn Silk Mohair by Sandnes Garn

Sample 2 (Black) used:
3 (3, 3.5, 3.5) (4, 4, 4.5, 4.5) skeins of Wellington Fibred 30/70 115g

You will need:

4 mm (US 6) circular needle with cable length of 40 inches for body ribbing
4 mm (US 6) circular needle with cable length of 12 inches for sleeve ribbing
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle with cable length of 40 inches for body and button band
4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle with cable length of 12 inches for sleeves
5 detachable stitch markers (like a lightbulb stitch marker)
2 stitch markers (of any kind!)
4-5 buttons. I recommend 5/8”

Note: Needle size is a suggestion. Please use the needle which gives you the correct gauge.
I recommend using 1 needle size smaller for the ribbing than the body.

Tension: 22 sts x 26 rows per 4 inches / 10 cm in broken rib worked flat on larger needles. Swatches should be blocked for accurate results.
