Side by side is a narrow shawl that can be worked in a variety of yarns, gauges and colour combinations. It is worked from one narrow end to the other, starting and finishing with 7 stitches. One stitch increases close to the Lace Edge are done every 4 rows until almost half of the yarn has been used, 10 rows are then worked flat, and decreases are done every 4 rows to get back to 7 stitches.

If using yarn in one colour, simply weigh your yarn at the beginning and make sure you keep track of the amount used. One could use a mohair/silk lace for an airy version, a solid colour or variegated 4ply (fingering) merino or cotton, or just as well go for an 8 ply (DK) yarn for a more substantial texture.

Mini skeins fade sets would work extremely well, with the options of either going from light to dark, or starting and ending with the same shade and having the rest of the fade arranged to your liking.
