Sidelines is a playful semicircle offering 2 patterns in 1.

  • It is worked sideways in modular short row wedges which can be adapted to any depth, so you can make it as large or small as you like.
  • You can work as many wedges as you like, so the shawl can be worked as a half circle, 3/4 circle or more.
  • The pattern includes 2 different styles, so you can knit your sidelines in a regular, ordered sequence, or you can knit them in a disordered/shuffled sequence.
  • And you can jump between these 2 styles, reversing the colour dominance in the process.
  • Make the squirgly little octopus fringe any length you like, or skip the fringe altogether.

German short rows create the shaping, and the garter fabric makes for a very relaxing knit, enlivened by a fun little cable detail at the outer edge, and the optional fringe can be worked in several different ways. The colours can be reversed between repeats of the chart, and the pattern includes 2 styles of wedges (ordered lines & disordered lines) to suit different knitting moods.

Sidelines can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with accompanying notes.
