Sideways Baby Sweater
THIS PATTERN IS FOR MACHINE KNITTING, preferably those with lace carriage. A hand knitting version is on the works. Check my Ravelry store often for details. A Spanish version is also in the works.
This is an adorable baby sweater that is knitted sideways in one piece starting with the left front, left sleeve, back, right sleeve and right front.
The only seams that would need to be done are those needed to close the sleeves and a hole in the armpits.
The edgings can be finished any way you want. Using crochet, or a picot edge in the knitting machine.
The sweater fits many sizes, as the sleeves can be folded up at first. The yoke is ample enough to accommodate a 12 months old.
A bigger sweater can easily be made using sport weight yarn instead of fingering weight, or increasing the number of short row sections.
My inspiration for this sweater was to make a versatile white sweater for my little nephew. As a mom, I remember that when my kids were little, it was the white sweater that I always reached for when leaving home because it goes with everything. Of course, you can make it in any color you please.
