Sideways Bias Triangle Shawl
A very wrap-able, slightly asymmetrical garter stitch triangle which can be easily custom-sized by using more or less yarn or by knitting to a different gauge. A simple 8-stitch cable runs along a portion of one side. The piece is constructed from side to side, beginning with one stitch and increasing on right side rows.
Gauge is not critical, but may affect yardage required.
Concerning yarn choice: Any yarn which will produce a relatively substantial fabric with good drape could be used. A yarn containing a mix of fibres is recommended as it is likely to hold the blocked dimensions better than most pure wool yarns. You can of course adjust needle size to achieve a pleasing fabric. A lighter yarn worked on smaller needles may require more yardage. Please note that although there has been some confusion about the weight of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, this is a DK yarn, perhaps on the light side in comparison to some other DKs.
The measurements of the original shawl are as follows: top edge 74”/188 cm, one side 53”/135 cm, cast-off edge (second side) 49”/125 cm, top centre to lower point 34”/86 cm. The asymmetry is not particularly noticeable when the shawl is worn.
