Sideways Knit Striped Cardigan #109
I liked the idea of using a vertical stripe pattern, but wanted something easy to knit. The striped section of this sweater is knit sideways, and the top portion is then picked up and knit to the shoulders, a simple way to add color and interest. The cardigan goes great with its matching short sleeve pullover (Pattern 108).
The body of the cardigan is worked from side to side, then stitches are picked up along one side edge of the body and worked for a seed stitch band. Then stitches are picked up separately for back and fronts and each piece is worked separately to the shoulders. The sleeves are picked up and worked flat from the armholes down. Finally, stitches are picked up along the bottom edge of the body and worked for a seed stitch band, then the front bands and collar are worked in seed stitch.
