Turning ribbed crochet sideways is a fantastic way to achieve a very stretchy sock fabric, and with a self-striping yarn, it looks so fun in those vertical stripes! Working the half double crochet stitches of the heel and toe through the back bar creates a little extra cushion just where you need it most.

Sock begins by creating Sole first, worked vertically in turned rows. Sole is temporarily set aside while Back of Ankle is created in vertical turned rows. Sole is joined to Back Ankle and work continues in vertical turned rows to create the Front Ankle and Top of Foot, then piece is slip stitched to form a long tube (with an opening for Heel). The gusset is created by using taller DC sts, making for super simple construction. Heel is worked in the rnd, and then Toe is worked in the rnd. Finishing the Heel first will allow an accurate assessment of foot length- if sock needs to be longer, more rnds can be added to lengthen Toe.

Please note that there is a small error in the pattern: Under the heading “Seaming row” it should say “With RS held together…” and not “With WS held together”. I apologize for this error (and am grateful that an astute crocheter brought it to my attention). We are working to get this corrected in the digital copies as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding!
