Siena is a beautiful, triangular shawl knit in soft Malabrigo Rios yarn that gives it stunning drape. The body of the shawl is just simple garter stitch framed by interesting lace panels. It is worked flat and bottom-up. It is a perfect accessory to wear every day.

Yarn: Malabrigo Rios 100% merino wool, 192 meters (210 yards)/ 100g (3.53 oz); 4 full skeins; the samples were knit in Whole Grain and Camel colorways;
Or: approx. 770 m/ 842 yards of worsted weight yarn;
Please, note: both samples were knit using almost all 4 skeins of Malabrigo Yarn Rios, with only few grams of yarn left. However, the pattern is easily adaptable: if you wish to make your shawl bigger and you have enough yarn, you can knit more body pattern repeats. If you are running out of yarn, you can knit one less body pattern repeat.

Gauge: 17 sts and 28 rows in Garter Stitch Pattern = 10 cm/ 4”; gauge is not crucial for this project but it will affect the size of your shawl and the yardage; make sure you have enough yarn to finish your project;


Needles: 4.5 mm/ US7 circular needles 80 cm/ 32” or longer; the shawl is knit flat but circular needles are recommended to accommodate the growing number of stitches;

Other: cable needle, tapestry needle to weave in loose ends, 2 stitch markers;

Measurements: approx. 94 cm/ 37” long and 160 cm/ 63” wide after blocking;
