Sienna Pumpkin
This is a simple ribbed pumpkin with some subtle added texture thanks to the extended single crochet. The stitch pattern makes it a great candidate for any kind of yarn, whether it’s a solid color or variegated. The pumpkin is worked in rows so the ribbing will run vertically along the pumpkin.
Size:
Small: 2.5”/6.4 cm tall x 3.75”/9.5 cm wide finished, 5.25”/13.3 cm tall x 8”/20.3 cm wide flat
Large: 3.5”/8.9 cm tall x 5”/12.7 cm wide finished, 8”/20.3 cm tall x 10”/25.4 cm wide flat
Gauge:
17 st x 15 rows = 4”/10.2 cm in extended single crochet (esc)
Note: Gauge instructions intentionally have you make a larger swatch for the most accurate gauge measurement. Gauge is not crucial for this pattern as long as your stitches don’t have gaps in between. Having a different gauge will affect the overall size of your pumpkin.
Materials needed:
- US H8/5.00mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge Vidalana Tweedy Sheep, weight 4/medium (90% wool/10% other, 100 g/3.53 oz, 150 yds/137 m), 60 yds/54.9 m for the small size, 105 yds/96 m for the large size
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle (a 5” weaving needle makes seaming easier!)
- Fiber fill
- Stick, cinnamon stick, or leather/faux leather for the pumpkin stem
- Leather/faux leather pumpkin leaf (optional)
If using a different weight yarn, Fesc until your row is either 8”/20.3 cm long (small) or 10”/25.4 cm long (large). It doesn’t matter if you end with an even or odd st count.
Skills needed:
- Be familiar with the foundation chain concept
- Extended single crochet
- Working in front loops/back loops
A huge thank you to my very first group of testers for working with me on this pattern! I’m grateful for your time and patience <3.
