This triangular shawl design is based on the mathematical fractal design, Sierpinski’s triangle. It is worked from the center neck edge out making two identical isosceles triangles and is finished with a lace edging along the bottom. The entire pattern is charted out. Row by row written instructions are also given.

The lace pattern is worked on the right side rows only but no two pattern rows are the same.

The three shawls shown are knitted in three different weight yarns. The gauge and needles given for the pattern are for the black shawl done in fingering weight yarn. The yarn, yardage, gauge, needles and final blocked sizes for the three different shawls shown are:

1. Black Shawl - fingering weight yarn (Lana Gattos VIP (80% wool, 20% cashmere, 200m in 50 gm balls), 1200 yds, 5 st. 7 rows per inch, 3.75mm (US 5) needles, 47” down the center back and 86” across the neck edge,
2. Golden Mohair Shawl - lace weight yarn (Hand Painted Mohair (490 yds in 50 gm balls) in three different colorways), 1100 yds, 6 st. x 9 rows per inch, 3 mm (US 2.5) needles, 44” down the center back and 78” across the neck edge.
3. Blue shawl - fine lace weight yarn (Divinity Lace (one 1300 yd. skein, 70% baby alpaca, 20% silk, 10% cashmere) from Beyond Basic Knits), 1000 yds (there is enough left of the skein to make a scarf), 7.5 st. x 11 rows per inch, 2.5 mm (US 1.5) needles, 37” down the center back and 78” across the neck edge.

The pattern includes directions for graduating the colors across the different colorways as shown in the second shawl and includes directions for optional beading along the edging (needs approx 90 beads).
